Altermodern
I came across Charles Avery's work in a book called 'Drawing Projects - an exploration of the language of drawing' and was struck by his graphic style and expressive characters.
Avery works completely from his imagination. This enables him to have a direct relationship with the drawing and not be restrained by what is actually there.
So I googled him and found pictures of his 2008 exhibition at the Hayward Gallery. He created a fictional island and spent years detailing the lives of its inhabitants and documenting the strange creatures that inhabited it.
This led me to this video which I found interesting. How more modern can modern get?

Dragon head card
Using the sketch above I separated the image into two colours, and cut them onto folded paper to make 4 of the same image.
Then I screenprinted using the stencils onto A4 sheets to be cut 'n' stuck onto individual cards.
